culinary arts, hospitality & tourism
West Lane Charter School –Culinary Arts, Hospitality & Tourism The Culinary Arts, Hospitality, and Tourism Program of Study at West Lane Charter School offers students a comprehensive exploration of Oregon’s growing service and hospitality industries. While many begin by learning culinary foundations through hands-on courses like Practical Cooking and Intro to Baking, the program extends far beyond the kitchen. Students gain exposure to restaurant operations, nutrition and food safety, lodging management, travel and tourism, and event planning.
Through our flexible, primarily online model, students develop practical and professional skills in food service, customer relations, and hospitality leadership—all from home or in our on-site lab. Coursework integrates industry-aligned standards from the Restaurant, Food & Beverage Services, Lodging, and Travel & Tourism pathways, preparing students for entry-level employment, certification exams (such as the Food Handler and Food Manager), or postsecondary study in Culinary Arts or Hospitality Management.
At West Lane Charter School, students learn to serve others with creativity, professionalism, and pride—skills that carry from the classroom to the community and beyond.
